Elx-Girona: Chronicle, goals and result

GIRONAWith few resources, Míchel has designed a reliable Girona that has its own identity, plays beautiful football and, finally, sees how the results accompany it. In Elche, the Girona team won their second consecutive victory (1-2), after recovering from a difficult match, and continued the fourth day without losing (8 points from 12).

Those who expected little from Elx-Girona were completely wrong, because it was a lot of fun: in the first half we saw a couple of goals, one of which should have been disallowed, three posts, two injured and a lot of occasions. The excess of roughness with which the home team came out was counteracted by the good management of white-and-red, who were about to get their fingers stuck but reacted at the indicated moment to leave in the stopping the World Cup with a laugh. It’s nice to see how they compete.

Every time Collado entered the game, things happened. He was the main troublemaker for Míchel’s team, kicking the first of the balls that hit the woodwork and leaking an assist to Pol Lirola so that the La Liga leader advanced on the scoreboard against an indecisive Girona, who It was more like the disaster in Almeria (losing 3-0 after half an hour) than the brilliant victory against Athletic.

Elx saw an opportunity and threw himself into it. In 14 games, the fourth coach (provisional, meaning there will be a fifth) made his debut, it was the team with the most goals scored, the second fewest and without a single victory. Going forward gave him the belief that perhaps against Girona, which in its history has resurrected more than one rival, the change of trend would be possible. The white-and-red entered with a changed foot and two injured footballers: Miguel in the warm-up and Yangel Herrera after 10 minutes.

But, the things of life, Pere Milla sent a shot to the crossbar that would have been a painful lunge. Deadly no, because Girona has shown that games don’t end until the last seconds of the countdown run out, but it would have been fucked up to be 2-0 down. That ended up being a turning point: Aleix Garcia sent a shot to the post and Oriol Romeu, who had already forced a great save from Edgar Badia, had a goal disallowed for one of the typical caught between a scorer and his marker. If we were wrong, we would believe that there are days when the Catalans are enforced by a different regulation than the rest of the clubs.

Iván Martín: two minutes, two goals

It was time to protest little, to continue hanging and hallucinate with the connection that has been created between Iván Martín and the goal. If on Friday it was arriving and grinding, in Elche three quarters of the same: before the break, he hunted down a dead ball to send it into the back of the net and add his second goal in Primera in just two moments. An impressive performance.

Fortunately, Girona came out very differently in the second half. Valery had a great chance, free from marking, which he sent wide. But the one who deserved it was Taty Castellanos, pointed out for allegedly not having a goal, who does a thankless job of wear and who shut up by pushing a cross from Arnau Martínez. It wasn’t a miracle for Oriol Romeu, who sent a ball over the crossbar.
