Castelsarrasin. The Courbieu fly reservoir reopens this Saturday

When the 1st category rivers are closed, from mid-September to mid-March, fly-fishermen go fishing in reservoirs: bodies of water dedicated to fly-fishing trout whipped. The Courbieu public reservoir, located next to the archery, avenue de Courbieu in Castelsarrasin, reopens this Saturday, November 12. Only the fishing license is mandatory, and compliance with the regulations in place.

Strict regulations

Fishing regulations on this body of water are as follows: fish only with whipped flies, with simple barbless hooks and hoist trout only with a landing net. All catches must be immediately released until the next pike opening at the end of April 2023.

Finally, the reservoir is closed every Tuesday and every Thursday to allow the practice of other leisure activities on its banks: cycling, archery, walking.

Hotter than usual water

Because of this summer’s heat waves and the current high temperatures for the season, the water in the reservoir is warmer than usual. To preserve the dumped trout as well as possible, the opening of Courbieu has been postponed by 15 days compared to previous years. Handling of each fish should also be as minimal as possible.

The Courbieu fly reservoir is public. Its entry is free and open to any fisherman holding a fishing license. It is the result of the common will of the departmental federation and the local fishing associations of Castelsarrasin and Montauban, to offer fly fishermen a privileged, free and unique fishing spot in Tarn-et-Garonne.
