Top favorite Thibau Nys immediately pulled out all the stops in the opening round. He took off with Emiel Verstrynge and the two of the Belgians demonstrated on the first slope.
Nys was immediately beaten back by a flat tire and suddenly a new race started. The Dutchmen Pim Ronhaar and Tibor del Grosso came together with Witse Meeussen at Verstrynge.
The foursome did not stay together for long, because in the fourth round Ronhaar ran off on his own. The strong Dutchman, who was 5th on the Koppenberg last Tuesday, seemed to have won, but collapsed completely in the final round after a mistake in the wheel of the returned Verstrynge.
The unleashed East Fleming got wings and suddenly Nys appeared almost at the front again after an impressive chase. The bevel had to make the decision and no one was wrong anymore.
Verstrynge was the first to cross the finish line with a primal scream, followed by Nys and Meeussen, who completed the Belgian party at the Citadel of Namur. Pim Ronhaar eventually only became 5th.
