ASVEL wants to exceed 20 million euros in budget within five years

While the new hall is progressing well, ASVEL is planning for the future with the objective of reaching a budget of 20 million euros in five years.

In one summer, AS Monaco skipped the stages by going from 14.1 to 20.7 million euros in annual budget. This with a very different economic model from that of the other French representative in the Euroleague, ASVEL, which relies more on linear progression. Its budget for the 2022-2023 season is 15.8 million euros, up 5% compared to last season (15.1 million euros). The deputy president of Lyon-Villeurbanne, Gaëtan Muller, announced the projections expected in the coming years at Progrès.

“When we arrived in 2014, we had a five million budget. We tripled it. We are at eight million in turnover on the sponsorship part, which places us in first place in France and places us in the first places in Europe. We would be in the top 3 in the top 14 and in the top ten in Ligue 1. This shows our development. There is work to be done, but we are closer to the twenty million budget, which we are aiming for in five or seven years, than we were to the fifteen million eight years ago. The development of the club is progressing and now we want to move up a gear. And the room and the likely layout of the Astroballe, which we are thinking about with the Mayor, with whom we get along very well, will clearly allow us to pass it. We are in the process of giving ourselves the means of our ambition, ”says the right arm of Tony Parker.

The LDLC Arena in advance

Without counting for the moment on a possible support from the owner of Olympique Lyonnais, John Textor, the Villeurbannais club is based on the income that will be generated by the new Arena (12,000 places in basketball configuration), which should come out of the ground at the autumn 2023, i.e. ahead of the initial deadline. A new room visited this week by the executive director of the Euroleague Marshall Glickman, former president of the Portland Trail Blazers, visibly seduced by what he saw.

“Now, the objective is to offer the most connected hall in Europe, with the best customer-basketball experience in Europe. It will allow us to double the reception capacity, increase our turnover, and bring a lot of things in terms of marketing, merchandising. We are really going to turn to spectacle sport with the objective of seeking a title of European champion in the medium or long term”, Gaëtan Muller told La Tribune de Lyon earlier this week.

On the ground, ASVEL still has to take steps. TJ Parker’s team will want to react on the Panathinaikos floor this Friday evening (8 p.m.) after a series of three defeats in the Euroleague, including a frustrating last against Bayern Munich.
