Women’s Champions League: Barça eliminates Chelsea and awaits OL or PSG in the final

And that now makes four in a row for Barça. This Saturday in London, the Catalan team beat Chelsea (2-0) and qualified for the final of the Champions League, like every year since 2021 (two titles and a defeat against Lyon, in 2021). The Spanish overthrew the Blues, who were winners in the first leg (0-1).

The reigning Golden Ball, Aitana Bonmatí, erased Barça’s deficit in the first leg in the first half (25th, 0-1). Thanks to his fifth goal of the season in the Champions League, the Spanish midfielder put his team on the right track. Dominant, the Catalans were however worried on a few occasions by Chelsea.

But in the second half, the English condemned themselves. First with the exclusion of Canadian defender Kadeisha Buchanan, sanctioned by two yellow cards in a few minutes (54th then 59th).

The Englishwoman Jessica Carter then caused a penalty, pushing Aitana Bonmatí at the edge of the area. Swedish striker Fridolina Rolfö transformed it, wrong-footing Hannah Hampton. Eleven against ten, the Catalans were superior and showed the extent of their collective strength.

FC Barcelona, winner of the competition last season, will therefore defend its title on May 25 in Bilbao. In the final, he will challenge Olympique Lyonnais, or Paris Saint-Germain. The two French teams play their semi-final return this Sunday at the Parc des Princes. In the first leg, the Lyonnaises won 3-2.
