Former motocross racer André Malherbe, who was crowned 500cc world champion in 1980, 1981 and 1984, has died aged 66 after being hospitalized three weeks ago. On January 6, 1988, the then 31-year-old André Malherbe crashed his motorcycle during the Dakar rally. Since that fatal moment, paralyzed from the neck down, he could only move his head. “And yet I enjoy every day,” he said in an extensive interview a few years ago.
