Eiduka, Vīgants and four other Latvian cross-country skiers start the World Cup season

The 2022/2023 World Cup cross-country skiing season will start today in Ruka, Finland, with six Latvian athletes taking to the track on Friday.

Patrícija Eidukas, Kitija Auziņas and Samanta Krampe will start in the sprint today in the women’s competition, as well as Raimo Vīgants, Lauris Kaparkalējs and Niks Saulītis in the men’s competition. Latvia’s leading cross-country skiers Eiduka and Vīgants will also compete in the matches on Saturday and Sunday, but the four debutants will only participate in the sprint.

On Friday at 11:00 a.m., the classic style sprint qualification will begin, with the best 30 skiers advancing to the elimination fights, which will begin at 1:30 p.m.

On Saturday, there will be a ten kilometer race in the classic style with an interval start, which will start at 12:00 for women and at 14:30 for men. On Sunday, in the 20-kilometer freestyle pursuit, the athletes will go on the tracks at 1 pm and 2:30 pm, respectively.

The second World Cup competition of the season is planned for the next weekend in Lillehammer, but a week later, a stage in Beitustelen is planned for the same place in Norway. In the middle of December there will be a competition in Davos, but at the end of the year the prestigious “Tour de Ski” series will start. This season’s World Championship is scheduled for the turn of February and March in Planak, Slovenia.

Eiduka started the season in the middle of the month in Muonio, Finland, where he finished ninth in the International Skiing Federation (FIS) ten kilometer freestyle competition in strong competition. Last weekend, the Latvian was in 12th position in Beitustelene ten kilometers freestyle.

Wiegants started only in Muonio, where he achieved the best result in 15 kilometers freestyle, winning 31st place.
