Manipulating the batsman, or putting wood on the ball, is the key to the success or failure of the ball club and the individual.

It’s no big mystery what makes a boy a good drummer. He must have :

1. A certain amount of normal abilities
2. A mastery of the fundamental principles
3. Confidence in his striking ability

Normal abilities cover many expressive abilities. They mean strong arms, wrists and hands; quick reflexes, good coordination, perfect eyesight and developing speed.

Regardless of how many normal abilities a boy has, however, he won’t hit like he does if he doesn’t control the fundamentals and believe in his ability to hit the ball as he comes through the strike zone. Self confidence, of course, comes from success. By the way, success in batting comes from practice. The following text describes hitting mechanics as they apply to bowlers in general. By following the underlying principles, the well-coordinated boy could easily become the batting star of his team; the average boy could certainly become a better-than-average noisemaker.

In getting information on handling the beater, there are a few key points you will need to know. These include in particular the following sectors

The position The step The positions of the arm and the hand The swing

The required position depends on the side they support. If a boy is right-handed, he must turn his left side into the jug; the good left-handed side therefore.

The body should be fairly straight and relaxed with the weight distributed evenly on both feet. Hips and shoulders should be level. The feet should be shoulder width apart with the toe of the front foot equal to the instep of the back foot. When the ball is delivered, the heels should be slightly overhead, the knees slightly bent. Step covers how the call should be hit. As the ball is delivered to the dish, the batter should lift his front foot just above the ground and slide it forward (towards the pitcher) about six inches. This stage, a critical part to hit, begins what is commonly referred to as synchronization. All other moves that are part of the stream manipulate the drummer of it.

Practice with this formula:

Ready ?

Stage and twist. Again with the starting position. Again, stadium and twist. Return. Scene and twist. Back

Coordinate arm and hand positions with stance and step. Right-handed beats: Place left palm against right shoulder in front, little finger down, thumb up. Bring the left hand forward about 15 cm and make a fist.

Left-handed beats: place the palm of the right hand in front of the left shoulder, the little finger down and the thumb up. Bring your right hand forward about 15 cm and form a fist.

The bend of the arm that is now extended across the body should have almost no bend in it and there should be no strain on the arm. In fact, the arm and the hand guide the drummer through the oscillation. The opposite arm and hand provide the power.

Make a fist with the given power and place it on the guiding hand.

So raise the elbow of the power arm so it’s level with the top of the shoulder. There will be some constraint there. Bring that elbow down slowly until there is no more constraint. The elbow of the force arm should stop about two inches below the top of the shoulder.

Keep elbows and hands along the body!
