World Cup: big blow for Thomas Meunier

Belgium holds its breath. Since Wednesday, and an anonymous German Cup match, she has seen the participation of one of her strong men, Thomas Meunier, largely compromised. Hit in the cheekbone against Hanover in the second round of the German Cup, the Belgian defender had to leave the field in the 62nd minute, replaced by Mats Hummel. If on the ground, Borussia Dortmund added a second goal after Meunier’s injury to qualify quietly (2-0), the Ruhr club received very bad news.

After examinations, Thomas Meunier suffers from a broken cheekbone. In a press release, Dortmund indicates the absence of his player is planned until the winter break, that is to say on November 11. Will he be restored for the World Cup in Qatar, which will take place from November 20 to December 18, nothing is less certain.

Aged 31, the former PSG player still hopes to participate in his second World Cup after that in Russia in 2018 where his team fell in the semi-finals against France. A meeting that the Belgian with 58 selections had missed because of a suspension.

In Qatar, Belgium, placed in group F, will face Canada on November 23, then Morocco four days later and finally Croatia on December 1.
