‘The warm-up is just over’

Dusan Tadić is still committed to Ajax in good spirits. The team from Amsterdam is coming from a difficult period, but the Serb is not surprised that things are going less smoothly than in previous seasons. A new team has to be formed and that cannot be done in one day.

“We’ve played good and bad games. There were also difficult matches in between,” said the captain in conversation with Ajax TV. “We are back on track and we need to keep winning. There are a lot of important games coming up. The season has only just started. The warm-up has only just ended and now it really starts.’

The left leg is already in his fifth season as an Ajax player, but has rarely seen so much resistance. Yet he does not necessarily see it as the most difficult period for him as an Ajax player. “We have had more difficult moments. The most important thing is that we are at the top of the competition. Expectations have increased and we have a completely new team. It’s not easy to build a new team. You need time for that.’

In addition to new players, a new trainer came to Ajax in the summer: Alfred Schreuder. Tadić has full confidence in the coach. ‘Of course there are always differences, but the philosophy of Erik (Ten Hag, ed.) and Alfred is the same. Yet it is a change. Everyone has to get used to that. My relationship with Schreuder is good. We have to give him time to get used to it.’

Conversations with Schreuder

Under the leadership of Schreuder, the international comes into action at Ajax in all offensive positions. The two talk about it regularly. “He sometimes tells me where he wants to put me. As a professional you just have to listen and follow. Of course you sometimes have healthy discussions, but as a captain you also have to do what is best for the team.’
