Short track athlete Kruzbergs starts the World Cup season with a victory in the 1000 meters distance / Article

Kruzberg overcame three rounds in the preliminaries, and was also the fastest in the main final, leaving second-place Korean Lim Yong-jin and Dutch short-track player Teun Baer behind him in the top three, securing Latvia’s first victory in a World Cup-level competition.

The competition will continue on Sunday in the 500-meter skating, where Kruzberg has secured a place in the quarterfinals.

The other Latvian short track athlete Reinis Bērziņš did not reach the semi-finals in the 1500 meter distance and took 22nd place. Two races in the 1000-meter distance will take place in Montreal – Bērziņš starts in the second race, where he was the fastest in his preliminaries and reached the quarterfinals.

The World Cup season will continue with the second round in a week in Salt Lake City, USA. In December, two stages are planned in Kazakhstan, and at the end of the World Cup season, two more stages will be held in February in Germany and the Netherlands.
