Max Verstappen 2022 F1 World Champion

Max Verstappen emerge as the champion of the race F1 Japanese GP 2022. There was confusion, Verstappen was finally confirmed to be the 2022 Formula 1 world champion.

When the race was stopped, Verstappen was in pole position. He was followed by Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez.

The race finally restarted at 4.15pm local time. The delay, which lasted up to two hours, shortened the race to 30 minutes.

When the race restarted, Verstappen was untouchable in pole position. Meanwhile, Leclerc and Perez were involved in fierce competition for the second position.

Leclerc followed in second place, followed by Perez. However, Leclerc then got a five-second penalty for taking advantage by cutting the chicane.

The penalty saw Perez get second and Leclerc dropped to third. The change in position had caused confusion about Verstappen’s status as world champion, because the race only completed 29 laps out of a total of 53 laps.

The FIA ​​later confirmed that the Japanese GP race used full points. Verstappen was just told that he was the world champion in an interview after the race.

Max Verstappen now has 366 points at the top of the F1 standings. Sergio Perez followed with 253 points, one ahead of Charles Leclerc.

This is the second world title for Verstappen. The Dutch racer also became world champion last season.
