Exhibition of strength and future of judo in Navia

Up to 400 judokas on six tatamis located in the Navia Sports Center. Yesterday, the Cadet Super Cup of Spain met expectations and a great day of sport was observed with a remarkable performance by the Galician delegation, which won up to nine medals. The fact of allowing international participation, with athletes from Italy and Portugal, adds merit to the regional medals and the two victories of the Famu de Frutos vigués.

Unai Peñas Merino obtained the victory in -55 kilos ahead of the Andalusian Rodrigo Rosado. For his part, Hugo Quereda led the city club to the top of the podium in -66 kilos and, in his case, after winning a fratricidal match because he beat Daniel Parrilla, also from Famu, in the final. Two golds and one silver was the whole harvest for the clubs of Vigo and the metropolitan area.

By having a wide turnout, a magnificent atmosphere could be experienced in the stands of Navia, which were full of relatives of the athletes. They put the color and cheered on their favorite judokas. As the battles progressed, the positions were defined and, in addition, the planned program was covered with exquisite punctuality.

The awards ceremony, always awaited by the winners of the day, began at 5:00 p.m. and was attended by the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero. As usual, he addressed a few words to those present and was photographed with them and, in this case, also with the Olympian María Bernabéu. The athlete retired in recent months and she accompanied the Galician judo and Famu’s family in yesterday’s competitive day, since the Vigo club is hers.

After the tough competition, there is a training session for today, the International Judo Campus, in which athletes and coaches will increase their knowledge. It is the playful part, but also educational, of a weekend of struggle and learning in Vigo.
