Both World Cup starters lose the first fight

Nadja Bazynski (TSV Bayer Leverkusen, NW) actually determined the fight and also led it up to the golden score. “Until then, there was no greater danger for them,” says national coach Claudiu Pusa.

She received her second inactivity penalty on the Golden Score, leveling with her opponent. “With an uchi-mata approach, grip control was suboptimal and the balance break was lacking. She missed and threw herself with it.”

“I never felt weak and my body was there,” says Nadja Bazynski, still stunned. “I’m super disappointed.”

Dominic Ressel (TSV Kronshagen, NS) initially struggled with his opponent. Both tried again and again to get the right grip and received punishments for inactivity after just over a minute. After almost three minutes of fighting, the Dominican Medickson Del Orbe got through with a shot attempt and received a waza-ari. Dominic Ressel could not catch up and lost the fight. “It was a tough defeat for us today,” says men’s national coach Pedro Guedes. “Dominic was ready and hoping for a great performance.”
