Hamburg (dpa) – – The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich have suffered their first defeat of the season in the Bundesliga. Coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost to Veolia Towers Hamburg 78-81 (69-69, 37-32) after extra time.

Hamburg’s best thrower in an extremely exciting game was Kendale McCullum with 31 points. Cassius Winston scored 25 points for the visitors. The new table leaders are Telekom Baskets Bonn, who won their away game at the Löwen Braunschweig 79:72 (40:36) and celebrated their third win in the third game.

The Hamburgers started the game with a strong defensive performance. Again and again, the Hanseatic League forced turnovers, which they then successfully completed. From 6:6 the Towers pulled away over 17:6 to 25:13 at the end of the first quarter. As a result, Bayern stabilized their game. National player Andreas Obst put the Munich team back in the lead with a three-pointer at 32:30. The second half mirrored the first period. Hamburg dominated the third quarter, Munich the fourth. In overtime, the Towers then had the happier ending for themselves.

Meanwhile, the Fraport Skyliners celebrated their first win of the season. Frankfurt won the Syntainics MBC in Weißenfels with 79:77 (39:43). JJ Frazier scored the winning goal for the visitors five seconds from time. The Würzburg Baskets won against the Niners Chemnitz 86:81 (46:41).
