Even with ManUnited, CR7 cannot currently prove its goal danger. Was in the starting XI for only the second time this season against Newcastle (0-0) on Sunday. The multiple world footballer wanted to leave the “Red Devils” in the summer. But a change failed. There was no club that wanted or could sign Ronaldo.
Also somewhat surprising in the Ballon d’Or election: Dortmund’s ex-scorer Erling Haaland (22) has to be satisfied with tenth place!
At least this season, the city star scores like no other: 14 competitive games, 20 goals! And last season, the Norwegian had delivered well at BVB: 30 competitive games, 29 goals.

By the way, defending champion and record winner Lionel Messi (35) didn’t even make it onto the Ballon d’Or shortlist this year! His PSG teammate and Brazil superstar Neymar (30) was also missing.
Background: There are new criteria for awarding the title. Instead of evaluating the performance of footballers per calendar year as before, seasonal performance is taken into account. Also means: The achievements of the overall career no longer play a role. The most important criterion is individual performance and the influence on team performance.
The Golden Ball has been awarded annually by France Football magazine since 1956. The winner was initially considered “Europe’s footballer of the year”, since 2007 the world’s best kicker has been chosen in competition with FIFA’s world footballer’s choice (since 1991). From 2010 to 2015, the newspaper and the world association cooperated in the selection of the world footballer, since 2016 two different prizes have been awarded. 100 journalists can vote, one from each country in the top 100 in the FIFA world rankings.
