Astrid Barría set the National record in Archery in Asunción

The delegation of Panama lived with emotion and enthusiasm the first day of meetings sports in Asuncion 2022.

Panamanian athletes begin to stand out and show commitment and passion they feel for their discipline and the country. Here are the results of today’s session:

Astrid Barría, the Archery athlete, ranked #7 in the qualifying round in the Compound modality, where she obtained a total of 672 points. In her first round, Barría, he managed to place himself in the third position and then, in the second round, in the tenth.

In addition, the Panamanian managed to establish a new National Record in 72 arrows, surpassing the record obtained in the past Junior Pan American Games Cali 2021. This is the first time that Panama has been in the top 10 South American archery.

Barría will be having his next meeting on October 4 at the National Center for Archery of the Olympic Park of Asunción, in front of Mía Navarrete from Ecuador.

The next meeting of the day was in charge of Petter Vega in the Triathlon disciplinewho completed the Sprint distance circuit: 750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km running, ranking #11 with a time of 57:04 minutes.

On the other hand, today began the participation of Panama in Weightlifting in Asunción 2022 and the athlete Ronnier Martínez, was in charge of representing the country in the 67kg test where he achieved 115kg in Snatch and 150kg in Clean and Jerk, adding a total of 265kg that allowed him to get 5th place in the competition at the XII South American Games Asunción 2022.

The Panamanian delegation also stood out in aquatic, the first to participate for Panama was Jeancarlo Calderón in the 100m freestyle in the qualifying series 3, who got 4th place with a time of 51.82 and 11th place in total; Carolina Cermelli in the 50m qualifying backstroke, series 2 achieving 6th place with 31.29, and 11th place in total; and the medalist Emily Santos in the 100m breaststroke in series 1, placed 4th with 01:12:42 and qualified for the final of 8tva.

Later, Emily Santos played the first final for Panama at the XII South American Games in Asunción, and won 8th place in the women’s 100m breaststroke event, with a time of 1:11.68. Emily’s next tests will be in the 200m and 50m breaststroke.

On October 03, the Panamanian delegation will be competing in the elimination phase and swimming finals in the 100 M Backstroke (Carolina Cermelli), 200 M Breaststroke (Emily Santos) modalities, while, in cycling, those in charge of representing Panama will be Wendy Ducreux, Christofer Jurado and Franklin Archibold. In fencing we will see Alessandra Aicardi and in karate Hector Cención.
