Ten years after its celebration, the Olympic Games in London continue to throw waste on the beach in the form of doping culprits. The last one, the Russian Natalia Antyukh, champion of the 400 meters hurdles. A pity, but not a surprise or a novelty coming from where it comes from. Gold goes to the American Let’s give Lashinda. The Czech rises to silver Zuzana Hejnov; and to the bronze, the Jamaican Kaliese Spencer. The decision of the Athletics Integrity Unit is appealable, and Antyukh will not be officially guilty until the corresponding appeal is resolved, if he is presented in the next 45 days.

But nobody will put even the nail of the little finger in the fire for the innocence of the hurdler. In Russia it pours over soaked. The country won eight gold medals in London athletics: Ivan Ukhov (high jump), Sergey Kirdyapkin (50 km march), Maria Savinova (800 meters), the aforementioned Natalya Antyukh (400 meters hurdles), Julia Zaripova (3,000 meters obstacles), Anna Chicherova (high jump), Tatyana Lysenko (hammer throw) and Elena Lashmanova (20 km. march).

It only maintains one, that of Anna Chicherova. Even so, it is considered dirty gold. Chicherova bears her own sins. As a cheat, her results were annulled from August 2008 to August 2010. She lost, therefore, the bronze medal at the Beijing 2008 Games and the silver medal at the Berlin 2009 World Cup. But she, escaped through the cat flap, she keeps the London gold in a test in which her compatriot Svetlana Shkolinaas muddy as the most, was dispossessed of the bronze, which fell to Ruth Beitiafourth classified then.

The case of Kenya

Doping does not rest. Kenya has had seven cases in less than two weeks, among which stand out Marius Kipseremwinner of the Rotterdam marathon in 2016 and 2019, Kenerth Kipropwinner of the last half marathons in Prague and Lisbon, and Kenyan champion of 10,000 meters, and Diana Kipyokeifirst in the 2021 Boston Marathon.

Kipserem used EPO. Kiprop, metasterone. And Kipserem, triamcinolone acetone, an old familiar glucocorticoid. Lance Armstrong y David Miller they used it. Bradley Wiggins he escaped receiving a sanction because of a controversial exemption for therapeutic use of the substance.

In recent years there has been talk that in Kenya all that glitters is not gold. Twenty-five Kenyans have been “caught” so far in 2022 and 52 are currently serving sanctions of varying importance and duration.
