A European champion to teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Limoux

After Carcassonne, Jean-Jacques Bukovinski now comes to teach a new martial art in Limouxin.

Martial arts is often a matter of Kimono and in this not so closed club, various ancient or more recent disciplines rub shoulders in a good sportsmanship.

Jean-Jacques Bukovinski had previously taught Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Carcassonne prefecture. However, following a meeting with the emblematic Limouxin karate master Jean-Francois Tisseyre, the two men, who speak the same language, decided to work together. So that since the start of the school year in September, courses in this new discipline have been given at the Dojo de la Haute Vallée.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, presentation

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is both a martial art, a combat sport and a personal defense system derived from Judo and Jiu-Jitsu techniques, historically developed in Brazil. Concretely, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotes the idea that a person can defend themselves against a heavier and stronger opponent by using the appropriate techniques, more particularly by bringing the fight to the ground, where the differences in weight are lessened, to apply strangulation, joint lock or muscle compression techniques.

In terms of distance, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is practiced very close to the opponent. Standing, the distance is comparable to judo, sambo, various forms of struggle, arts mentioned above, but also to tai ji quan, or shuai jiao.

But what differentiates Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is its consideration for combat on the ground: unlike Judo, where the ground is one possibility among others, the jujiteiro (the one who practices Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) has the preferred strategy to bring his opponent to the ground in order to somewhat cancel out the difference in weight, then to immobilize him to exert physical and psychological pressure on him and lessen his resistance. This strategy was exotic for many opponents, because if you can often force an opponent to go to the ground, you can’t easily force the other to fight standing up.

Jean-Jacques Bukovinski therefore began his teaching in the Limoux region armed with an impressive “CV”: 4th degree black belt and double European champion.

The teacher offers his lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dojo de la haute vallée 7 bis av Charles De Gaulle. Contact: 06 11 81 73 35.
