Alexandre Müller stopped by Nicolas Jarry in the round of 16 in Rome

Alexandre Müller’s great Rome tournament ended this Tuesday. The 27-year-old Frenchman, 109th in the world and from qualifying, was unable to do anything against Nicolas Jarry and lost (7-5, 6-3) in the round of 16 of the Italian Masters 1000.

If the Chilean was worried even before the start of the match, calling on the trainers after the warm-up, this was little seen during the match. The first game? Three aces. And if he was stuck on a return from Müller and was therefore broken, he immediately returned to 2-2.

Then the giant (2.01 m) dominated all the exchanges, relying on his serve (15 aces, 80% of points won behind his first ball) and showing himself, as usual, very aggressive (22 winning forehands) . The 24th in the world saw his offensive tennis rewarded: at 5-5, he won five games in a row and clearly stood out.

Back in the top 100 and invited to Roland-Garros

Despite a small alert – two break points that he saved thanks to his serve – he held on and calmly finished the match. Jarry, who was left with three initial defeats in Monte-Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid, will face Stefanos Tsitsipas (8th) or Alex de Minaur (11th) in the quarter-finals.
