Vallejo, Villa, Romeu and goalkeepers Gazzaniga and Fuidias arrive on the last day

It had been many years since a last market day as busy as the one experienced yesterday in Montilivi was remembered. Not one, not two, not three, but five were the new faces that were announced yesterday. Two were known and unofficial, those of Oriol Romeu (Southampton) and Paulo Gazzaniga (Fulham), but the club, with the aim of profiling a squad that guarantees Míchel, also brought in the goalkeeper Fuidias (Madrid Castilla) and, in some intense last hours, Toni Villa (Valladolid) and Manu Vallejo (Valencia). The last two strengthen Girona’s offensive plot, a position in which Míchel had asked for more cash. Villa, a 27-year-old winger who was out of contract with Valladolid in June, is committed to Girona until 2025, in an agreement that only involves the payment of a few variables. For his part, Manu Vallejo also signs for three seasons and Girona pays a small transfer, according to Valencia.

The day was very busy at the Montilivi offices. Early in the morning, the first two signings fell. The club made Romeu’s arrival official and a few minutes later did the same with Fuidias. The young goalkeeper, who was the third goalkeeper of the first team last season, is owned by Girona, who have tied him up until 2025. Born in Berga 21 years ago, Fuidias (1’95 m.) arrived in Madrid in 2012 after standing out with Gimnàstic Manresa. Although he will have a club card, Fuidias will be the third goalkeeper of the first team and will compete with Juan Carlos and Gazzaniga. The Argentine, in Girona since Wednesday night, arrives on loan from Fulham until June 30, 2023.

More fun were the last hours of the market. With pennies to tackle more operations and strengthen the attack – thanks, in principle, to City’s help in the transfer of Romeu – Girona moved in several directions. The clearest, that of Toni Villa. The winger had been touched by Girona for days and the operation was finalized yesterday. If with Toni Villa, Míchel will have a left winger who can play outside and inside, with Manu Vallejo the coach gains a striker profile that he did not have in the squad. The 25-year-old Andalusian is a small, quick striker who can drop to the wings and is capable of turning games around. Trained in Cadiz, Valencia paid 5.5 million in 2019. Since then he has spent two and a half years at Mestalla (57 games and 9 goals) and half at Alabès (11 games and one goal). Girona won the game in Valladolid and Cadiz for the signing of Vallejo, a much coveted piece of the market.
