Three tucumanos at the head of the North Open

Martín Contini.

On a windy day, it was the people of Tucumán who best accommodated themselves to the conditions and the new route presented by the 55th North Open presented by the Government of Tucumán Copa Macro.

Martín Contini, Luis Romero and Facundo Núñez are thus the leaders on the Jockey Club’s Country course after scoring 67 strokes for -4. One is Jorge Monroy, Mauro Baez and Lucas Lozada Clerc.

Meanwhile, there are four other players tied for seventh place with 68 strokes. They are Ezequiel Beloqui, Juan Benitez, the Paraguayan Pedro Baek and Ramiro García Veiga, who until now is the best ranked Amateur.

“It didn’t look like the course we are used to playing on, a wind blew that is not common here, plus the greens that were faster than usual made us have to be very precise. Luckily I was patient after a regular start and ended up with several hits that allowed me to finish with 4 less in my last nine holes,” said Contini, who this year competed on the Korn Ferry Tour.

“Without a doubt, this year’s experience there taught me a lot and part of that I was able to use in today’s round. This is a very important tournament for all Tucumans and I would like to once again be in the fight”, said the 27-year-old player.

Luis Romero, Pigu’s brother, analyzed his round: “I started hitting well, I made a great birdie on 4, another good one on 6, but the day was difficult, there was a lot of wind and the pairs were good. To the 10th birdie I added an eagle to the 12th, a short par four where I reached the green with the driver and from there it was a struggle and I was able to save myself in several holes”, said the 38-year-old from Tucuman.

“On this course the greens are very different from those on the other course, those are more frank, these have a lot of fall and are not easy to read, that’s why I think the game on the green is key this week”, said who also He was in the fight at the Termas de Río Hondo Open last August.

In the afternoon Facundo Núñez, also from Tucumán, was the one who did things the best. “The beginning was key, I holed out for an eagle at 1 and I almost made a hole in one at 2, from then on I played hit by hit because it wasn’t easy. The truth is that I can’t believe I’m at the top of this championship, which is the one that all of us from Tucumán want to win”, said he, who made five birdies, an eagle and two bogeys.

Another of the notes of the afternoon was the hole in one by Ariel Leguizamón who holed in one shot on the par three of the 13th, 208 yards, with his 6 iron.
