Olav Kooij lands the leap you don’t expect and wins the ninth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2024. First partial success of his career in a major stage race for the Dutch sprinter from Visma, who won a group sprint at the finish line in Naples, beating the Italian Jonathan Milan and the Colombian Juan Molano by a margin.
“My first stage win in a Grand Tour was what I was looking for, at the end of a difficult and unfortunate week for our team. We weren’t sure if we would be able to catch the breakaway riders, but the team worked hard. The guys put me in an ideal position. It was tough, but I really wanted this first victory in a Grand Tour and I hope there will be many more in the future“, the Dutch sprinter’s immediate declarations after the arrival.
