The Erasmus + MAGICS project makes a stop in Orte

NewTuscia – ORTE – From 8 to 12 September next Orte will be the seat of the Third International Exchange of Athletes and Trainers of the MAGICS – Medieval Activities Grow International Cooperation in Sports project, funded by the European Union under the Erasmus + Sport Program.

The project, coordinated by the Hungarian Association Várkapitány Lovagi Torna Egyesület, involves traditional sports associations and municipalities from 5 European countries (Hungary, Italy, Spain, Lithuania and Poland), in activities aimed at promoting sports usually considered “historical re-enactment” or folkloristic element, such as traditional dances, archery on horseback, flag games and the game of the Pilot. The focus of the project is on the importance that these sports have for local communities, as promoters of intergenerational exchange and tools for the transmission of traditional knowledge, and for Europe, as an expression of cultural diversity as a primary value of the Union. .

The central moment of the event will be the Workshop “Mutual Comprehension and dialogue: transgenerational cooperation in Traditional Sports”, which will be held at 10:00 in the Conference Room of the Roberteschi Palace.

Furthermore, the third international exchange will be held in Orte during the celebrations of the Medieval Octave, allowing European delegations to attend days of historical re-enactment, with the Historical Parade and the Palio to be held on Sunday 11 September, and the great show of the flag-wavers of the seven districts of Orte which closes the celebrations of the Octave as every year. There will be moments dedicated to training in the art of the flag, made by the flag-wavers of Orte, and to medieval sports such as target shooting with axes and javelins and sword games, by the Hungarian Association Várkapitány Lovagi Torna Egyesület.

The Spanish Municipality of Pedreguer will present the ancient game of the Pilot (or Palla Valenciana), an ancient discipline that today is enjoying more and more success among young people thanks to an accurate work of enhancement and transmission carried out at a basic level, even if the game of Pilot is not officially recognized as a sport by the Spanish government.

The MAGICS project is funded by the Erasmus + Program for the sports sector, aimed at allowing small amateur sports realities to acquire knowledge, train their staff, exchange experiences with other clubs and organizations of the European Union. The implementation of the project is followed by the ACe20 agency of Orte, which for over ten years has been committed to supporting the development of a European dimension for private and public organizations.
