RB Leipzig wants to hire Max Eberl as head of sport

RB Leipzig’s club boss Oliver Mintzlaff has announced further talks with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the coming days about a possible commitment from Max Eberl as sports director. “Now we’re at a point that we want Max to want it, and I’ll have talks with Mr. Schippers from Gladbach in the next few days, then we’ll see if we can get together,” said the Bundesliga club’s CEO on Sunday TV broadcaster Bild: “If we don’t get together, then we’ll definitely have to look for another alternative.”

Immediately after the cup victory at the end of May, Eberl canceled the Saxons, said Mintzlaff. “Nevertheless, I didn’t give up on Max Eberl, knowing full well that the door wasn’t even ajar. I stayed a bit stubborn, and at some point the gap widened, so I gave it more gas, ”said Mintzlaff, who could bring the former Gladbach management duo together after coach Marco Rose was hired.

Mintzlaff praises performance against Dortmund

The 48-year-old Eberl resigned as sports director in Mönchengladbach at the end of January, citing health reasons. However, his contract, which runs until 2026, has not been terminated, but is only on hold. Accordingly, Borussia would be entitled to a transfer fee should Leipzig bring Eberl.

After the convincing 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, he praised the team’s performance. “It was now the first game, it certainly went the way we had ideally imagined, that the team shows its virtues again, we win against Dortmund and pick up speed again, just as we had imagined before the season.” , he said.

Mintzlaff also thanked Domenico Tedesco for his success. He held the team accountable. “We had the feeling that what the team can do, that they can’t get it out like this anymore. When we parted ways with the coach, and that wasn’t an easy step for us, not an easy step for me personally, I spoke to the team and said that that was far too little of you for me. And that there are too many I-AGs for me.”
