Bad news for Robert Sarver: one year of disqualification and a fine of ten million dollars. These are the measures adopted by the NBA against the owner of the Phoenix Suns, guilty of conduct that “clearly violates normal workplace standards“. The investigation shows that Sarver used”a racially indelicate language“and he was guilty of”unfair treatment of female employees and sexist claims and conduct“, with a treatment towards his employees that sometimes resulted in”in bullying“. The NBA did not implement heavier sanctions as it was recognized that this behavior was not motivated by”racial or gendered hostility“: in 2014 Donald Sterlingthen owner of the Clippers, was banned for life and forced to sell the franchise after the release of some private audio in which he used racist language. Sarver, for his part, underlines that he disagrees with some points of the report drawn up against him but he wanted to apologize “for my words and actions that have offended our employees. I take full responsibility for what I have done“.
