NFL: Sean McVay wants to see more urgency from Cam Akers

LOS ANGELES — Cam Akers was limited to just 12 plays on the field in the Los Angeles Rams’ season opener. Despite his low usage, his head coach Sean McVay wants to see his player “maximize his opportunities”.

“No matter who you talk to, you want to see guys doing the little things the right way, fighting with and without the ball,” McVay said. There have been instances where there were some positive things and some things he can improve on, but we want to see an increased level of urgency and accountability from him. »

Akers carried three times for no win in Los Angeles’ 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in the NFL’s new season opener. Darrell Henderson Jr. started the game, playing 54 reps and rushing for 47 yards on 13 carries.

McVay said he knows what Akers is “capable of,” and because of that, he’s confident Akers will bounce back.

“We’ve all seen how talented this guy is and what a special player he can be,” McVay said. I want to see him reach his highest potential. And that’s really all there is to it. »

“The opportunities have been minimal. There were some things in each of these individual games that I think we can improve collectively, starting with me, then the players, but also Cam. »

McVay was also asked about the use of wide receiver Allen Robinson, who was limited to just one reception for 12 yards against Buffalo but was only targeted twice.

« [Buffalo] did a great job of execution, said McVay. We have to try to involve Allen more. But there were some opportunities for him to speak out and for different reasons that didn’t happen. But these are things that we will be looking at week by week.
