NFL: Mac Jones suffered a sprained ankle, Rashawn Slater a torn bicep

The New England Patriots have announced that quarterback Mac Jones suffered a severe left ankle sprain during Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

The team hopes Jones can avoid surgery. It should not be the starting lineup in the team’s next meeting against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

According to Adam Schefter, the quarterback will have to be absent for several weeks and an operation is not excluded, while the team is currently evaluating its options.

The quarterback, who is in his second season in the NFL, appeared to be injured on his team’s last offensive play in the game, with 1:55 remaining. Jones finished the game with 321 yards, completing 22 of 32 pass attempts and throwing three interceptions.

It’s the second time in three games that the 24-year-old quarterback has suffered an injury after suffering back pain during the first week of activity against the Miami Dolphins.

If Jones is indeed forced to miss the team’s next game, veteran Brian Hoyer should be the starting quarterback.

Two heavy losses for the Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a torn bicep and will have to miss the remainder of the regular season. Defensive lineman Joey Bosa has a groin injury and will be out for several weeks.

The injury to Slater, 23, appears to have happened on the Chargers’ first possession in the second half of the Chargers’ loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Slater was a first-round selection, 13th overall, of the Chargers in 2021. He also appeared in the Pro Bowl during his rookie season.

The Texas native has been in the starting lineup for 19 games.

For his part, Bosa was also injured in the game against the Jaguars. He will be evaluated weekly and the Chargers still don’t know when he will be back.

The 49ers will be without their best lineman

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has announced that star lineman Trent Williams will miss 4 to 6 weeks of activity with a sprained ankle.

The 34-year-old veteran left Sunday night’s game against the Denver Broncos after a bad fall and did not return to action.

Shanahan added that the team will know more about Williams’ condition when the swelling goes down.

Williams is recognized as one of the best players at his position. He appeared in nine Pro Bowls and was named a First Team All-Star last year.
