League leaders in the Bundesliga: Freiburg does everything right – sport

Yes, SC Freiburg somehow managed to knock FC Bayern off the top of the table, and you can’t deny that in the away game in Leverkusen, the additions Ritsu Doan, Michael Gregoritsch and Matthias Ginter scored all the goals, and of course they are now everyone is totally excited again that the coach Christian Streich isn’t blustering around like Goliath, but fantasizing about points against relegation.

But that’s probably for the best, because all is not well at the supposedly exemplary sports club: Where was Mr Grifo when Bayer 04 marched over his side before the 1-0? With a 2-1 lead, how can you get such an inexpensive goal as Schick’s equaliser? There is only one explanation for the fact that it was 3:2 in the next moment: Pope was in the bag.

And by the way: How did the so-called top buyers Daniel Kofi-Kyereh and Merlin Röhl spend the weekend? Banished from the squad by Streich, you had to while away the time playing with Freiburg II against FC Ingolstadt. 7.5 million euros transfer fee for two players who kick in front of almost 1000 spectators in the third division? So is this what the highly praised Freiburg purchasing policy looks like?

Freiburg is the leader of the table – you can pause for a moment

OK, stop that. Makes no sense. Riding up the Watzmann with a three-speed folding bike is easier than wanting to expose SC Freiburg with criticism. The sports club is not only doing everything right at the moment, but is doing it a little bit better every year. He is the toughest adversary of the notorious envious, know-it-alls and misanthropes, who, as is well known, could form strong associations in this country.

A Freiburg league lead after the fifth matchday is not yet a milestone in German football history, but one can pause in this fleeting moment and realize that it is quite a masterpiece of the sports club to continue the brilliant previous season in the same style and to face the new tasks in the To meet the European Cup with a squad expansion that can currently only be described as successful, clever and, on top of that, inexpensive. Kyereh and Röhl will, no doubt, do their part with the pros, at the weekend they first helped to promote SC Freiburg II to third place in the third division table. By the way, FC Bayern II plays in the regional league.

Connoisseurs have recently remarked that the sports club is benefiting from having kept its well-established team together, with the exception of Nico Schlotterbeck. But the fact that this is not a value in itself is proven by the crisis-ridden constructs Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig. With some, the whereabouts of Patrik Schick and Moussa Diaby were celebrated, with others you could keep Christopher Nkunku and Dani Olmo in the house and combined them with the supposedly easy to integrate new acquisitions Timo Werner, David Raum and Xaver Schlager. Leipzig and Leverkusen even made commitments to ambition in the summer, but both are now at least short on points, which also applies to another club with close industrial ties: VfL Wolfsburg doesn’t do much either, which gives reason to expect improvement.

From the point of view of the traditionalists and romantics, the fifth day of the game should have set a milestone. Not only because on that day, you can’t say it often enough, SC Freiburg drove Bayern from the top of the table.
