Football – Ligue 1 – 6th day: Lille revives in Montpellier, Valère Germain expelled

LOSC concluded its week in the best possible way. Thanks to a success on the lawn of Montpellier where Jonathan David offered himself a double (3-1), Lille is temporarily installed in fifth place in this Ligue 1 2022-2023. On the Montpellier side, the exclusion of Valère Germain just before the break caused a turning point in the game. This is the end of a positive spiral for the MHSC, after two consecutive victories in the league.

Once again, Lille put on their black beast costume to face Montpellier. Undefeated for nine matches in the league against the Héraultais, the Mastiffs won logically against a valiant opponent, but too physically fair after suffering a numerical inferiority for the entire second period. From the start of the game, Lille put together the ingredients to leave La Mosson with the three points. Tiago Djalo found the bar on a corner (5th), then Ismaily the post (11th). From his cage, Mathis Carvalho was able to see his success and the selflessness of his teammates. Taking advantage of a badly dosed back pass from José Fonte, Elye Wahi thought he opened the scoring against the court of the game but Leonardo Jardim made up for his captain’s error. Unfortunately for the doorman, Wahi took his revenge by taking advantage of a defensive clumsiness (20th, 1-0).

Despite this goal from the locals, Lille never let go of their overall domination, going up to 76% of ball possession per hour of play. From then on, LOSC equalized by David, well served by a Rémy Cabella back on his land (41st, 1-1), then found himself in front of the score with the goal of Angel Gomes (57th, 2-1). In the meantime, the turning point of the match probably took place when Germain put his crampons on the calf of Adam Ounas (45th). A dangerous gesture synonymous with expulsion for the former Marseillais, and a galley to come for Montpellier. Long in the race with only one goal behind, the champion of France in 2012 cracked on a last counter with David at the conclusion for a fourth goal this season (95th, 3-1). Lille ended their sellout in Montpellier, and business was good with three extra points.
