Brest: what’s going on with Belali? – Soccer

While the rumor of a termination of Youcef Belali’s contract has been circulating in recent hours, Brest ensures that the Algerian attacking midfielder is still at the club. But maybe not for very long…

Belali and Brest, will it be over soon?

Is Youcef Belali still a Stade Brestois player? For several Algerian media, the answer was no. The latter had announced since Monday evening that the 30-year-old attacking midfielder had terminated his contract with the Breton club. A version finally denied by the SB29 on Tuesday.

Contacted by RMC, the Brest management denies having signed a document allowing the termination of the Algerian international’s contract and claims to have received no formal request to this effect from the player or his entourage. The Fennec is also expected Wednesday at the training center, his return from the international break.

And yet…

False alarm, then? Not really. Because despite this denial, the radio says that a divorce between the two parties seems to be in the pipeline. On the one hand, the Finistrian club would be tired of the behavior of the player, author of various off-field gaps in recent months , as Le Tlgramme explains. On the other, the former resident of Qatar SC has never found his feet in Brittany and no longer hides his spleen, wishing to return to Qatar or go to another Gulf country.

Arrived free in January 2022, Belali did not really convince during his first six months in Brest (3 goals and 2 assists in 13 Ligue 1 games). This season, he was started four times by Michel Der Zakarian during the first five days, delivering his only two decisive assists against Angers (3-1, during the third day). Behind, he sat on the bench against Strasbourg (1-1) and PSG (0-1), before being suspended against AC Ajaccio (0-1) for accumulating yellow cards. And nothing says that we will see him again with the jersey of the 19th in L1 on his shoulders.
