2023 grid: 4 more seats available – F1 Drivers – Formula 1

In early September, the Williams had officially communicated its position on the future of Nicholas Latifiwith the team that would have formalized the confirmation or the interruption of the relationship with the Canadian driver for the 2023 after the Italian Grand Prix. Almost two weeks after the Monza race, the team actually respected the times, reaching a conclusion: Latifi’s contract will not be renewed. As a result, one seat is currently free in Grove.

To date, the British manufacturer has Alexander Albon as the only official driver, but at the same time it is forced to complete its own line-up for 2023 which, as indicated by the historic team, will be announced quickly. So who will be the next Williams driver? The hottest names are two, although there is no shortage of other candidates running for a place. Among all, the most suitable seems to be the Dutch Nyck De Vries, Formula E champion and above all author of an impeccable weekend in Monza to replace the unavailable Albon. A performance that attracted the attention of other teams, all eager to definitively bring to F1 a talent who, until the Italian GP, has always worked as a test driver. On top of that, De Vries’ experience could be the key to a stronger partnership with another experienced driver like Albon. On the contrary, Williams could instead also promote a young man from her Academy like the American Logan Sargeant, winner of two races in Formula 2 and of American nationality. An element, the latter, which could favor his entry into the top flight due to the stars and stripes ownership of F1. Less feasible, however, is the approach of Mick Schumacher, which could be taken into greater consideration if the German is not confirmed by Haas. Finally, there is no lack of the hypothesis of another Williams home profile like Jamie Chadwick who, if promoted, would become the first woman in F1 since 1992.

The situation is therefore uncertain in Williams, as well as in others three teams, with all these who have yet to communicate the confirmation or not of one of its two pilots. The most complex case to evaluate is that ofAlpinefresh from three days of private tests in Hungary with ben 14 pilots recalled by the French company, all in the running to replace the starter Fernando Alonso. Until 22 September, the composition of the AlphaTauri was also marked with a question mark, which then communicated the continuation of Tsunoda’s career in Faenza also for 2023. At this point, therefore, it remains to be understood which will be the pair of pilots of the Haaswith the aforementioned Mick Schumacher who, in the words of team principal Günther Steiner, “Will remain at 50%”. In conclusion, the last doubt concerns theAlfa Romeowho has yet to renew Guanyu Zhou’s contract.
