young Logan Sargeant to drive Latifi’s Williams in Austin free practice

The Williams team announced on Tuesday that its young American driver Logan Sargeant (Carlin in Formula 2) will drive Nicholas Latifi’s FW44 for the first free practice session of the Grand Prix disputed in Austin (October 21-23).

The legendary Williams team has specified that the young Logan Sargeant, pilot of their academy, will take the seat of the FW44 of Nicholas Latifi for the first free practice session of the Grand Prix of the United States, disputed in Austin (21-23 october). He will become the first American driver to take part in a Formula 1 weekend since Alexander Rossi in 2015.

«I’m super excited to have this opportunity to play my first free practice in Austin. Having the chance to participate in the United States Grand Prix is something extremely special for me. JI can’t wait to make the most of this experience“, then reacted the young 21-year-old American who had already carried out private tests in Abu Dhabi last December.

All F1 teams must run a driver with limited experience in at least two first Friday practice sessions this season. Williams, bottom of the championship, made way for Mercedes’ Dutch reserve Nyck de Vries at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona in May.

Sargeant is having an impressive career start with this F2 season spearheading it. With Carlin, he notched two race wins and two podiums to currently sit third in the standings behind Felipe Drugovich and Théo Pourchaire.
