Discover the table of the WTA 1000 in Toronto, which will be the first meeting of importance leading to the US Open. Iga Swiatek and almost all of the World Top 10 hope to make a good impression there.

The headliners of women’s tennis will all be there. Like every even-numbered year, Toronto will host the first of two WTA 1000 tournaments serving as a dress rehearsal before the US Open, with Danielle Collins the only member of the Top 10 to miss. Remaining on a poor performance at home against Caroline Garcia, Iga Swiatek will make her debut on hard courts in Canada. Exempted from the first round, the Polish will launch her tournament against Veronika Kudermetova or Shelby Rogers. In the third round, the world number 1 could find the finalist of the last US Open Leylah Fernandez, who was at her side during the draw ceremony. On the other side of the table, Anett Kontaveit will have to do battle with Jil Teichmann or Venus Williams to start with a potential third round opposing her to Simona Halep. Maria Sakkari, seeded 3, was placed in the same part of the draw as Iga Swiatek and will face Sloane Stephens or Sofia Kenin in her first match. Paula Badosa, fourth in the hierarchy, is on the other side of the table, with Katherine Sebov or Yulia Putintseva as the first opponent.

Cornet and Garcia face to face entrance

On the French side, only two players obtained a direct ticket for the main draw… and the draw was not kind to them. Indeed, Alizé Cornet and Caroline Garcia will face each other in the first round in Toronto! In addition, this will be the very first confrontation between the two Habs on the WTA circuit. Victorious last year in Montreal after a final against Karolina Pliskova, Camila Giorgi will have a lot to do from the start with the defending champion of the US Open Emma Raducanu as an opponent. Unhappy finalist in 2021, Karolina Pliskova will find her compatriot Barbora Krejcikova. But one of the matches that will attract attention in the first round is likely to be that between Belinda Bencic and Victoria Azarenka. In addition, the one who emerges victorious could face Serena Williams in the second round and then Naomi Osaka or Garbiñe Muguruza in the third. Crowned at Wimbledon, Elena Rybakina will start her week with a duel against a qualifier before potentially meeting Cori Gauff then Aryna Sabalenka in a lower part of the table less intense than the upper one.
