Wieffer on his way back to Feyenoord; Lopez is missing

Mats Wieffer is on his way back to Feyenoord. The midfielder injured his ankle during pre-season and has been sidelined ever since.

This reports RTV Rijnmond. Wieffer resumed training on Tuesday morning at the 1908 training complex. The 22-year-old right leg, who came over from Excelsior last summer, has again fully trained with the group of trainer Arne Slot. Jens Toornstra was missing from the training field and completed an indoor program. Marcos López was also not there yet. The left-back is still awaiting his work permit.

Wieffer sustained the ankle injury in the friendly match against Red Bull Salzburg. At first he seemed unable to train for only a few days, but it soon became clear that it would take a lot longer. Whether Feyenoord’s acquisition against RKC Waalwijk will be part of the match selection again on Sunday remains to be seen. Asset Igor Paixão is certainly not there yet.
