USA is on the road to the FIBA World Cup

The United States is about to qualify for next year’s Basketball World Cup.

John Jenkins scored 26 points as the United States defeated Colombia 95-77 on Monday in a second-round qualifying game. The victory puts them on the path to closing out the competition, which will take place in a year’s time in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, in the next round of matches in mid-November.

Langston Galloway and DaQuan Jeffries each had 14 points for the United States who, after giving up the first basket of the game, scored the next 12 points and never trailed again.

“Getting this win is a big deal for us,” Jenkins said. “We are very excited”.

For the United States not to reach the World Cup, a total collapse would be necessary. In this round, they are in a group of six teams, of which the best three are guaranteed their presence among the 32 that will participate in the 2023 event.

The United States is 7-1, two games ahead of Brazil, Mexico and Uruguay (all 5-3) in Group F. Puerto Rico is 4-4 and Colombia is 3-5. Each team has just four qualifying games left.
