Urban violence in Limoges: a “hope for French basketball” arrested

Violence broke out in the priority classified district of Val de l’Aurence in Limoges, between the police and young people, in the nights from Monday to Wednesday. In these clashes, a CRS had been slightly injured by mortar fire, three cars burned. On Friday, the Haute-Vienne national police announced on Facebook that four people were arrested following these facts.

The police indicate that “a young adult of 21 years, hope of French basketball returning from the United States and unknown to the police services” is among those arrested. The latter “admitted to having thrown projectiles at the police”. A 17-year-old minor, “known to the police and justice for criminal acts”, and who admitted having tried to destroy a surveillance camera with stones, was also arrested.

Brought to court on Friday

These two people were brought to justice on Friday “to answer for their participation in these unacceptable events”, indicates the national police, while the two other individuals arrested in the context of this urban violence are “a person holding narcotics” and “an individual traveling on a scooter refusing to comply and having struck and injured a police officer from the 87 Anti-Crime Squad.”

At the beginning of the week, the clashes in the Val de l’Aurence district had started when jets of mortars and Molotov cocktails had accompanied the arrival of firefighters escorted by police officers, who had come to put out a car fire.
