Gabriel Montenegro/DLA.- With the presence of nine entities from the country, in addition to the regional delegation, the National Badminton Championship was inaugurated this Wednesday, August 17, in the U15 and U17 categories for women and men.
The official act of the start of this fair of the sport of the fast racket and the flying «roosters», was attended by the directors of the National Federation of the specialty, among them its president Dhayisbeth Torrealba; the vice president, Yerri Prada; the president of the Trujillo Association, lawyer Gabriela Morales, Anaís González, Davier González from the Indet board, Luis Montilla, trainer and promoter of the activity, and a total of 101 athletes who from this Wednesday August 17 will be in action.

It should be noted that the specialty of badminton, like most sports disciplines, except basketball, boxing and baseball, as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, had fallen into a kind of lethargy, but now it is reborn as the Bird Phoenix and there are many young people who practice it today.

In his speech, the president of Indet, Jesús González, welcomed all those present and highlighted the recovery of several fields and sports venues that were totally abandoned.
“Governor Gerardo Márquez has entrusted me to work to recover these structures and as we have done with this Darío Gamboa table tennis gym, we will do it throughout the region.”
“In the case of Trujillo -he continued- we have always had good appearances at the national level and even several of our representatives and we have achieved several champions, others have attended international events with very good results”.

For her part, Dhayisbeth Torrealba, greeted those present, especially the athletes, thanked the Indet president for the gesture and promised to take our region into account for future competitions.
Finally, the industrious legal professional Gabriela Morales, president of the Trujillo Badminton Association, also greeted the participating athletes and technical staff and wished them all the greatest success.
A little history
Badminton is a sport that was born in India at the end of the 19th century and is practiced in countries such as Indonesia, Korea, India itself, Pakistan, China, Japan and Russia, with much progress in our Latin American countries. It is played like tennis, but in two or three sets throwing the bird or rooster in the air with great shots for the score.
For this national court event in the Sub 15 and Sub 17 categories, eliminatory rounds will be held and the matches of the eliminatory round have been distributed in two groups. It will be played in the same way until Saturday with the finals and awards of the event.
