The Los Angeles Lakers will retire the number 16 in honor of Spaniard Pau Gasol to pay tribute to the Spaniard’s long career in the Los Angeles franchise. This was announced by the team on its Twitter account after the Catalan played six seasons at this club and with which he won two rings (2009 and 2010) along with Kobe Bryant.

The act of tribute will take place on March 7, 2023 during the game they will play against the Grizzlies, another of their Spanish teams in the NBA.

Pau Gasol, 42, played for the Lakers from 2008 to 2014 and was a two-time NBA champion. The Spanish center played 18 seasons in the NBA, with the Memphis Grizzlies, Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers.
