Former Argentine international Carlos Tévez (76 caps, 13 goals) was hospitalized in Buenos Aires due to chest pain, the Independiente club, which he currently coaches, announced on Wednesday. “The examinations carried out were satisfactory. (…) He will remain hospitalized as a precautionary measure until the end of the examinations,” indicated the Argentinian club on X (formerly Twitter). Neither he nor his entourage have yet communicated.

Now aged 40, Tévez ended his successful football career in 2021. In Europe, he notably played for Manchester United, where he won the Champions League in 2008 before joining the enemy Manchester City in 2009, then signing for Juventus in 2013. After his time in Piedmont, he returned to his training club Boca Juniors in 2015. He finished his career there six years later, after a freelance stint in Shanghai (2017-2018).
With the Argentine selection, he played in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups but was not selected for the 2014 edition, in which the Albiceleste reached the final. He was also a finalist in the Copa America three times, in 2004, 2007 and 2015. Converted to coach, he led Rosario Central in 2022, before taking the reins of Independiente last August.
