For the Lombard Serena Ondei the 70 kg final was earned with the victories over the Canadian Kiera Burt, the French Teophila Darbes-Takam and in the semifinals she got the better of the Kazakh Azhar Askhat who, in the golden score, on the pressure of the blue deserved the disqualification. The final for the 70 kg world gold instead, was one-way and the Uzbek Barchinoy Kodirova won the title, but thanks to this extraordinary performance Serena Ondei brought the fifth medal to the blue medal table, the absolute best performance in the history of the cadet world championships, after Almaty 2019 (4 medals and ten athletes in the top seven) and Sarajevo 2015 (3 medals and six athletes in the top 7).

Morgana De Paoli also competing today in the +70 kg in the +70 kg who, after the clear victory over the Canadian Marianna Karas, was eliminated by the generous ippon granted to Azerbaijani Nigar Suleymanova.

Italy today in Sarajevo closes its world championship with 5 medals, 1 gold with Gaia Massimetti (52), a silver with Serena Ondei (70), three bronze medals with Rebecca Valeriani (44), Federico Bosis (66), Savita Russo ( 57), two fifth places (Ilaria Finestrone, 48 and Michela Terranova, 52) and one seventh (Francesco Sansonetti, 81).

“Today the Sarajevo world championship ends with an amazing new medal, this time silver, with Serena Ondei. – this is the comment of Francesca Campanini– Serena led an exemplary race from both a technical and tactical point of view, right up to the final… it’s a pity she didn’t finish with gold around her neck but let’s look at what we have achieved. The match of Morgana de Paoli in the maximum weights, instead, ended in the second round, with a defeat on which we cannot complain. As head coach of the women’s team, I am very satisfied with the performance of the girls: one gold, one silver, two bronzes and two fifth places, are the numbers of six girls out of ten who have played in a final. Now we have to take this fantastic and talented group by the hand and continue with them a work that started in the best way “.

Tomorrow the mixed team tournament in which Italy is not registered is scheduled.
