“Riga” footballers beat the “Metta” team in a league match

“Riga” team won the 24th round game of “Optibet” Latvian Football Premier League on Sunday. “Riga” defeated “Metta” footballers 3:2 (1:1) in a duel between two teams from the capital.

In the seventh minute of the game, after Joselfo Barnes’ cross, Alex Ogunji headed the ball into the goal, taking advantage of a situation in which “Metta” players did not understand each other in the penalty area. In the last minute of the half, “Riga” goalkeeper Nils Toms Puriņš also made a mistake, and as a result, Mohamed Lamine Correa made it 1:1.

In the second half of the second half, Kristofers Rēkis made a handball in his penalty area and brought a 11-meter penalty kick to his own goal. Jānis Beks guessed the direction of the ball hit by Juri Kendish, but did not save from a lost goal – in the 76th minute, 2:1 in favor of “Riga”.

Four minutes later, in a fast attack, Artyom Puzirevskis passed the ball to Zhan Mbasi, who made it 2:2. True, the tie lasted only two minutes, because at the other end of the field, after a pass by Douglas Aureliu, Luis Torres hit his head accurately and restored the lead to the “Riga” team.

Ogunji and Mbasi, the two goal scorers, did not finish the match due to injuries. On the other hand, after conflicts three minutes before the end of regular time, the head coach of “Metta” team Andris Richerts was expelled from the game. A couple of assistants from both teams were also expelled.

Today, “Liepāja” hosts the “Auda” team, while RFS is fighting at home with Salaspils “Super Nova” team. In the last game of the round, on Monday in Jurmala, the match of the local “Spartak” with “Daugavpilis” will take place.

On Saturday, “Valmiera” defeated the “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” team at home – 6:1.

“Valmiera” is at the top of the tournament table with 60 points in 24 games, RFS is in second place with 52 points in 23 matches, and “Riga” is third with 50 points in 23 matches. “Liepāja” is behind the first three with 44 points in 22 games, “Auda” has 38 points in 23 games and “Daugavpilij” has 24 points in 22 matches, while the “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” team has 20 points in 24 duels. Jurmala “Spartak” and “Metta” have 14 points in 22 and 24 matches, while “Super Nova” has 11 points in 23 matches.

Ten teams are playing in the 2022 Super League. Last season, RFS triumphed for the first time in the history of the club, Valmiera came in second, and Liepāja won the bronze. Meanwhile, the champion team of the previous three seasons “Riga” took the fourth place.

In the last season of the “Optibet” Future League, the first three places were occupied by “Auda”, “Tukums 2000″/TSS and “Super Nova” teams, joining the top league clubs.

The games are planned to be held in four rounds from March 11 to November 13.
