Regional Governor Rodrigo Mundaca received national and Pan American university basketball champions – Diario La Quinta

A delegation from Sportiva Italiana, two-time champion of the LNF, and from the PUCV, Pan-American 3×3 basketball champions, visited regional authorities.

The female delegations from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) and Sportiva Italiana de Valparaíso arrived on the 19th floor of the Regional Government to be received by the regional governor Rodrigo Mundaca, the seremis of Sport, Leandro Torres, and the Woman, Camila Lazo, together with regional councilors Tania Valenzuela and Ricardo Aliaga.

In the case of the PUCV athletes, they obtained in mid-July the 3×3 Pan-American university basketball title, obtained in Lima, Peru, which qualified them for the World Cup in Turkey. While the Sportiva Italiana come from being crowned two-time champions of the Women’s National Basketball Leagueafter winning the final home run played at the Arlegui gym in Viña del Mar, defeating the University of Chile, the German School of Paillaco and the University of Concepción, in a competition that was financed by the IND’s Fondeporte project.

Governor Rodrigo Mundaca pointed out that “I am very happy to receive the champions, I wish we could start them this way every day. We have assumed the commitment to raise a public policy of permanent support for sport. It is very important that the Regional Government commits itself to these athletes, who are a source of pride for the region”.

The Sports Seremi, Leandro Torres, added that “we are very happy as a sports portfolio to have met with the Regional Governor to present the champions, and publicize the permanent sports initiatives that we have as Mindep-IND and have had an echo important by the regional government. We believe that the right path is to make sport visible through a permanent public policy”.

The Women’s Seremi, Camila Lazo, stressed that “we wanted to give them regional recognition to continue promoting and promoting women’s basketball that has given us so many victories. We want to strengthen work ties and public policies in relation to reducing the gender gap in sport”.

Regional councilor Tania Valenzuela indicated that “it is a tremendous achievement at the regional level to have national and Pan American champions and as regional councils we are developing a regional program to deliver resources to our outstanding athletes.”

For his part, the counselor Ricardo Aliaga said that “together with the champions, we hope to work so that the sport continues to spread, since we want to make a programming agreement with the Ministry of Sport, and have high-standard gyms and heated pools in each one of our provinces.

Josefina Cortes, Sportiva player and best player in the final home run, commented that “we expected to win the title because we have a spectacular coaching staff and we work hard, we work as a team, that makes a difference. It is nice to hear that the authorities are committed to helping us, to recognizing our talent, we leave very happy”.

In the month of September, Sportiva Italiana will return to the courts with the start of the TOP 12, where the best Chilean women’s basketball clubs will seek the champion, while in 2023 they will represent Chile in the South American Club League.

PUCV will travel to Turkey in October to participate in the 3×3 basketball World Cup.
