Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe’s transfer was one that Eintracht Frankfurt knitted for months. The Frenchman was initially released on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, after which the Hessians have a purchase option. “The first contact was in January. I was enthusiastic about the talks with sports director Markus Krösche,” said Ebimbe at his introduction press conference on Thursday.

How can Glasner install Ebimbe?

During the negotiations in the winter, Krösche had promised him that he would also try to get him the following summer. That finally convinced Ebimbe to move to Frankfurt. But at first glance the question arises: Where is the place for the 21-year-old, who likes to conquer balls and then strives to move forward?

Ebimbe made it clear: “I see myself as eighth.” This further fueled the competition at Eintracht. Sebastian Rode, Djibril Sow, Kristijan Jakic, Ajdin Hrustic, Daichi Kamada, Mario Götze and Jesper Lindström are the options for coach Glasner in the control center. He said at the press conference before the game against Bremen: “He’s a great soccer player. A box-to-box player who has good solutions in midfield and recognizes interfaces.”

Eintracht newcomer Ebimbe allows more variability

In the 3-4-3 system or the 4-2-3-1 system practiced recently, Ebimbe would have to be patient. Sow and – above all – Rode need breaks with a view to the triple burden of the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Cup. But Ebimbe does not want to swap PSG’s bench for Eintracht’s.

Possibly Glasner can build on a 4-3-3 through him? Rode or Jakic could act as a six in front of the back four, Sow and Ebimbe as “box-to-box players”. Eintracht would be even more variable and therefore more difficult to calculate for the opponents.

Another eight next to Sow?

The attempt with Daichi Kamada as second six or eight next to Sow was too risky because the necessary balance was lost and the gaps between defense and offense became too large. Ebimbe, who was tactically excellently trained at Paris, can help more here.

It is also quite possible that Ebimbe will be used offensively on the right. “When he was loaned out, he played on the wing because he has good dynamics,” said Glasner. “Maybe he can also play a stage further up, especially since we like to have our wingers in the half-spaces and not on the outside line.”

It is now up to Glasner where and how quickly he can use the new gem. But the coach is confident: “We already have a few positions, above all we have a lot of games in the near future. We’ll find the right position for him there.”
