MLB recap of August 26 games in the American: Aaron Judge at a homer of the plateau of 50

Aaron Judge hit his 49th homer of the season, Gerrit Cole struck out 11 batters for his first win since July 17, and the New York Yankees continued their streak by beating the Oakland Athletics 3- 2, Friday.

Judge opened the scoring with a three-run slap in the fifth inning to come within a homer of the 50 plateau.

Cole allowed one run on three hits in seven and a third innings. He hit 200 strikeouts for the fifth time in his career. His only misstep came on the first homer of Jonah Bride’s career in seventh.

He hadn’t relished victory in his last six starts and was 0-4 over the streak.

The Yankees sign a fifth straight victory after going on a three-game losing streak and six losses in seven games.

The A’s pulled the lead to one on a Dermis Garcia single in the ninth, but Wandy Peralta held on to get his third save of the season.

Red Sox curb Rays streak

Xander Bogaerts hit a three-run homer and the Boston Red Sox snapped the Tampa Bay Rays’ six-game winning streak by beating them 9-8.

Michael Wacha (9-1) allowed four runs in six innings for the win in his third straight start since returning to action after a month-and-a-half absence. He has won his last six decisions and his only loss of the season was on May 31.

Yandy Diaz, Ji-Man Choi and Jose Siri homered for the Rays, who ran out of time after coming within a run of the Red Sox with a four-run push in the eighth. Ryan Brasier then saw four earned runs added to his record without being able to register a strikeout.
