MATCH DAY! Feyenoord travels to Waalwijk

It’s match day again! Feyenoord will take on RKC this afternoon in Waalwijk. The team from Rotterdam will want to take revenge for last weekend’s draw against sc Heerenveen (0-0). Feyenoord must win today in order not to immediately lose the connection with the competitors. The game starts this afternoon at 4:45 PM and can be followed live via ESPN and via the live blog on FR12.nl.

Due to the draw against the Frisians, Feyenoord missed two points. Because Ajax, PSV, Excelsior, FC Twente and AZ did manage to win, Feyenoord dropped to seventh place with four points. PSV and the latter two were given leave by the KNVB this weekend, so that they can optimally prepare for the return matches in the preliminary rounds of the Champions and Conference League. Competitor Ajax will play against Sparta at Het Kasteel this afternoon at 2:30 PM.

This week there was again talk of bold letters. Timon Wellenreuther came over from RSC Anderlecht on a rental basis and has to fight with Ofir Marciano who will become the second goalkeeper behind Justin Bijlow this season. The arrival of Igor Paixão was also finally officially announced. The Rotterdammers also made a lot of progress in the transfers of Dávid Hancko and Ezequiel Bullaude, who both seem to be presented after the weekend. That means Feyenoord is well done on the transfer market. If Hancko and Bullaude do indeed make ends meet, the counter will stand at fourteen incoming transfers.

Back to today. Slot knows what needs to be improved in Waalwijk. ”In the first fifteen minutes against Heerenveen, the chances followed each other. This also puts pressure on your opponent. That was also the case in the last quarter. In the intervening phase I have seen a lot of unnecessary ball loss. Our strength last season was that we could become dangerous on the sides, so that got a lot of attention again this week.” The team from Rotterdam especially has trouble playing teams that defend low, which RKC Waalwijk will do again today.

Quilindschy Hartman made a good impression on training last week. Slot indicated that the 20-year-old left back is ready for a place in the starting lineup, at the expense of Marcus Pedersen. Furthermore, Orkun Kökcü looks set to return, which probably means Sebastian Szymański will start today on the bench. Despite a mediocre match against sc Heerenveen, Patrik Wålemark retains Slot’s confidence. He starts in the attack together with Javairô Dilrosun and Danilo Pereira. Mats Wieffer is still injured, while Marcos López and Paixão are not yet eligible to play.

Probable line-up Feyenoord

Bijlow; Geertruida, Trauner, Rasmussen, Hartman; Aursnes, Timber, Kokcu; Wålemark, Danilo, Dilrosun

The most chosen setups

RKC Waalwijk

The Waalwijkers finished in tenth place last season and maintained themselves easily on paper, although in practice it was slightly different. The difference with number sixteen Heracles Almelo was only four points, so that the team of coach Joseph Oosting eventually got away well. RKC Waalwijk started this season with draws against FC Utrecht (2-2) and FC Emmen (1-1).

Michiel Kramer, former Feyenoord player, is confident today. “It’s always fun to play against big clubs. Especially against Feyenoord is also special for me. We’re going to try to make something fun out of it. We already know that it will be difficult. Heerenveen has shown that Feyenoord has difficulty with compact teams.” Everyone is fit at RKC Waalwijk, which means that Oosting can send his best eleven into the field against the Rotterdam team.

Probable setup RKC

Vaessen; Lelieveld, Gaari, Adewoye, Van den Buijs, Lutonda; Vroegh, Oukili, Bel Hassani; Daneels, Kramer
