LeBron James signed a contract extension for 2 years and 97.1 million dollars with the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, which will also give him an option for the 2024-25 campaign, surrendering to who will lead the team’s present.
James will earn $44.4 million next season and $46.9 million in the 2023-24 NBA campaign, always with the option of pocketing another $50.4 million for what would be his final NBA season.
This deal also makes James the player with the most guaranteed money in league history, surpassing Kevin Durant with earnings of $532 million. There hasn’t been a player who has secured more money in his contracts since the inception of the NBA.
James earned $169.8 million in 12 seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, $64 million more in 4 years with the Miami Heat, and now he can earn $244 million with the Lakers, not counting his player option for $50.4 million more.
Now the Lakers, hand in hand with millionaire LeBron, will have the task of cleaning up the image of the team, which could not reach the playoffs last season despite having put together a contending team.
