Remembering Jack Murphy: Appalachian State Mourns the Loss of Beloved Offensive Lineman

Appalachian State offensive lineman Jack Murphy has died, coach Shawn Clark announced Monday.

No cause of death or further details were given by the school. A school spokesperson told ESPN that Murphy died on Friday.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jack Murphy,” Clark posted on X. “He was a beloved Mountaineer. Please keep his loved ones and our App State family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

App State finished spring practice in March.

Murphy, who was set to be a fifth-year redshirt junior this coming fall, was a third-team All-Sun Belt selection and started all 14 games at offensive tackle. The Fairfax, Va. native previously played three years at Marshall from 2020 to ’22.
