Joaquín Niemann closes the season with his best performance in the Tour Championship before deciding his departure to LIV

Joaquín Niemann said goodbye to the Tour Championship with a final round of joys and sorrows. The Chilean ended his participation in the tournament with a card of the day of -1, which left his accumulated score at -13. His last day in the competition, however, was positive, since he improved his numbers compared to Saturday, when, before the day had to be suspended due to rain, he registered -12. However, he was not enough to stay in the top ten and finished in 11th place, tied with Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama.

The talagantino, in the first place, had to finish the holes that were pending once the weather made him leave the course early. Niemann, who returned to the field far from the leaders, had the mission of cutting new blows. However, he maintained the trend of Saturday, the one that forced him to have joys and sorrows. By the third round, on the 17th hole, he tripped over a bogeyalthough after that he recovered with a birdie to close that pass.

Thus, Joaco went out to face the last day of competition with the aforementioned score of 12. Fighting for the title needed a miracle at the top, beyond what he did on his own. But his work with putt he again lacked effectiveness and his performance was far from ideal.

The panorama began uphill for the national. From the outset, it was complicated by a bogey which he then repeated at the fifth flag. After that, he achieved his first birdie of the day, in hole six. Nevertheless, could not end the first part of the day with a smile, as he was forced to use a new shot over par, on the eight.

Joaco had his revenge. But it wasn’t enough to get close to the top of the leaderboard. On the 10th hole, he got a shot over par again, to later sign two more on holes 14 and 18. On a course that cost him too much on Saturday, Joaco felt more comfortable and wearing, at times, his best version. Beyond the fact that he finished the day with just -1, product of a difficult start. The winner was Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who took advantage of a disastrous day for top seed Scottie Scheffler.

Still, it was enough for Niemann to complete what has been his most outstanding Tour Championship performance to date. In addition to earning $925,000, he surpassed his starts in previous years, breaking into the top 20. Before, he had only finished 29th and 27th.

For now, it cannot be ruled out that this was the last time for the man from Talagan on the PGA Tour. As he himself stated, he has not yet decided whether or not to go to LIV Golf. Joaquín expressed that his possible departure from the North American circuit to the Saudi super league that seeks to steal all the prominence from what, for now, is the highest competition for golfers.

“I haven’t made a decision yet,” the Chilean told Golf Channel, once Friday’s round was over. He also assured that, after this Sunday, he will analyze the chance to change the scene. “Obviously there are some things I have to see first, but I’m not thinking about that right now. I want to finish the playoffs and then see what my decision will be, ”she added. Although in his environment they say that his departure is already sentenced.

Niemann will face key hours before announcing a decision that will mark his future.
