It is not without a certain emotion that the city of Saint-Macaire (Gironde) will find its medieval day on Saturday August 27, 2022, after two years of food shortage linked to the covid pandemic.

The 80 volunteers of the Les Médiévales association have worked tirelessly for several months and are currently fine-tuning the final details so that this day is worthy of the event.

Entertainment in the historic center

To this end, part of the historic center such as the Château de Tardes, rue Carnot and of course the Place du Mercadiou will be taken over. Alice Monnier, the president of the association wishes to specify: “the animations and the restoration will be in function from 10 am in the morning”.

The program is extensive. Also, don’t be late! Throughout this day there will be a series of shows in wandering mode, such as magic, sword fights…

With traditional songs provided by the Des Gars de Garonne group or even the “Middle-aged duo” formed by Michel Autier and Stéphane Detrain (some of whom have already been able to appreciate the talents of comedians during the night walk on August 6) .

All of them will take you on board with humor in their medieval universe. A dozen craftsmen and designers will also be present in the morning with the theme of spinning, felting and sewing, provided by the Atteliages and the seamstress Maureen Darriet.

You can also have your hair done and beribboned, or make your wreaths in ivy or woven wicker, try your hand with Claire Candelon at the art of calligraphy of the medieval alphabet with the reed pen (this reed cut for writing). L’entrepot’, a Macarian pottery workshop, will introduce you to modeling and stamping; The Forges de Carrié will give beautiful demonstrations of their art while the youngest can make swords and shields with wood lovers.

Several free guided tours will also be offered by the Vivre le Patrimoine Macarien association within the village, the mass grave tower and the comments on the murals.

To eat, a tavern will be in place from 10 a.m. with drinks and the innkeeper’s plate, completed in the evening from 7 p.m. with four catering areas with small plate formulas at very reasonable prices. In the evening, the public – comfortably seated around the tables decorated in medieval fashion – will be able to enjoy songs, music, magic and a fire show.
